Merry Christmas from Webanywhere

I would like to wish all our customers and partners past, present and future a very Merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year.

I would also like to thank the brilliant Webanywhere team for their many and varied contributions to (another) record year. Our office Christmas Party is this afternoon (and most likely long into the evening…) and is set to be a cracker!

Look out for some exciting new developments from Webanywhere in the New Year, but for now however you are spending the festive period, have a great time.

Learner Journey – Map a lifetime of learning

Learner Journey – Choose your Path from Webanywhere on Vimeo.

I would like to signpost our recent launch of Learner Journey, an online e-portfolio and safe social network used by schools to create a digital map of personal learning journeys, preserving each milestone and landmark along the way.

Using Learner Journey:..

Pupils can

  • create a personal document of their time in school, packed with multimedia content
  • share achievements with peers and the wider community
  • communicate and collaborate with fellow pupils in a secure online environment

Teachers can

  • assess and provide feedback on student work online, anytime, anywhere
  • store work and resources online – never lose work again
  • help meet Ofsted guidelines on e-safety

The product has been designed with e-safety in mind. The explosion in social networking, and reduced parental and teacher oversight of online activity poses new challenges for educators. Learner Journey provides a safe, positive introduction to online interaction and expression for younger pupils, and can form the central pillar of e-safety teaching and initiatives in schools.

We are very excited about Learner Journey here at Webanywhere, and I hope you check it out – it can become a really powerful learning tool, as well as a fun way for pupils to communicate.

The reason we come to work each day

Webanywhere has come a long way in a short time. I am so proud that the company I started from my bedroom has developed into an organisation with a multimillion pound turnover and thousands of customers, both in the UK and abroad. We now have a staff of over 100 worldwide, with 80 based at the Keighley headquarters.

But this is just the start of the journey; our higher purpose is to create jobs – this is a key driving force for our company and it is why we come to work each day. This year Webanywhere plan to take on 60 more staff in key roles to drive ambitious international expansion plans, as well as to maintain and develop the high standard of customer service and product innovation for which we are known.

Webanywhere are on a recruitment drive, seeking the best and brightest to help fill these new positions in the near future. Current job opportunities span just about every department of the business, with openings in web development, sales, marketing, HR and customer support.

In such a fast growing organisation, the chance for progression is great. We make a great effort to nurture talent, and new management positions are often filled from within the company. We maintain strong ties to Keighley, and are always keen to recruit and develop local talent as part of a commitment to job creation in the town.

School Updates – the New Android App from Webanywhere

School+Updates1

Webanywhere are pleased to offer a great new App for Android mobile devices, available to download free.

School Updates allows parents to keep up to date on the latest news from schools in their area with School Jotter 2 websites.

As soon as a website update is made, such as a new event or a school closure, parents can access the information on demand whilst on the move. Users are able to choose the type and frequency of their notifications so only the most relevant information is provided.

Download the App for free at the Google Play store.

SchoolUpdates

School Updates is another offering from the Webanywhere innovation lab, constantly working to stretch the potential of educational technology and provide products to enhance learning for students, teachers and parents.

The requirements of the end user are key to all we do, and our products are designed around the specific needs and requests of our customers. So we want to hear from you: how could technology improve your pupils learning experience? How could technology help improve collaboration between home and school? What extra functionality would you like Webanywhere’s products to offer? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Webanywhere sponsor league champions!

Whitehill6

Webanywhere are proud to be the new shirt sponsor of the Whitehill Community Academy football team.

The team are currently on a roll – Champions of the East Calderdale League, and unbeaten in 18 months. They are also playing in the semi-final of the Calderdale Cup this afternoon, and will be wearing their new shirts with pride as they go after yet more silverware.

The team paid our offices a visit yesterday to show off the new kit, take a look around and meet some of our team. They also took full advantage of the table football and pool table in our canteen!

We would offer to play them, as several members of the Webanywhere team meetup to play football every week, but judging by recent performances Whitehill would run rings around us!

We wish the team every success, and are sure they will represent the Webanywhere logo admirably. Whitehill are an enthusiastic user of our products, including primary learning platform Learnanywhere and Student Jotter, our E-Portfolio and safe internal social network, and we are delighted to be able to show our support back.

Indonesian School visits WebAnywhere

Sean+Gilligan+blog+-+Indonesian+visitors

I was delighted to host a visit today from two teachers at the Pondok Pesantren Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School in Indonesia, and show them around the WebAnywhere office.

They are in the UK visiting The Holy Family Catholic School in Keighley, where I am a governor, as part of a teaching exchange programme funded by the British Council.

It was fantastic to hear their thoughts on the British educational system, and learn more about the picture in Indonesia.  Their school boards 2200 pupils, and conducts lessons 6 days a week (with Friday the only day off), with the pupils bringing their own laptops into lessons.

As Webanywhere expands internationally it is great to speak to as many educators from around the world as possible to find out what their experience of ICT in education has been, and their thoughts on its future.
